Leigh Expansion and Hildenborough Embankment Scheme (LEHES)

A substantial role as the Client project manager for the Hildenborough scheme and other associated works including delivery of a flood defence wall at the Oast House, a grade 2 listed property, landscaping/biodiversity net gain (BNG) works at both Leigh/Hildenborough and finally delivery of a Water Framework Delivery (WFD) project to improve water quality in the Straight Mile and Powder Mill streams.

The Hildenborough scheme included a designed solution that reduces flood risk to as many homes as possible with as little impact on the local community as we can. Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council approved our planning application in November 2022. The scheme is designed to work with the Leigh flood storage area expansion and will further reduce flood risk to Hildenborough from the River Medway. It includes:

• a new embankment

• a pumping station

• a penstock structure on the Hawden Stream
